Red palm oil is derived from the fruit of a palm tree (elaeis guineensis), unlike palm kernel oil which is derived from the kernel of the fruit. The oil palm tree is native to the tropical areas of Africa.
It contains a high level of antioxidants, including carotenes and tocotrienols. The carotenes are what gives it its red color and red palm oil contains far more carotenes than carrots or tomatoes. Tocotrienols are form of vitamin E and have been shown to be more potent than the tocopherol form of vitamin E.
